    2nd Arab Bloggers Meeting

Twenty-nine Arab bloggers met in Beirut, Lebanon on August 22-24, 2008, for the first Arab Bloggers Meeting, sponsored by The Heinrich Böll Middle East Office in Beirut in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Arab Middle East Office in Ramallah.

It was the first gathering of its kind, bringing together significant members of the Arab blogosphere to exchange experiences and discuss issues of relevance and importance to bloggers in the region.

The event was widely praised by participants and speakers and received very positive press coverage. As a follow-up to this gathering, the Heinrich Böll Stiftung in cooperation with Global Voices Online proposes to hold a more intensive training workshop for Arab bloggers, targeting the majority of participants in the Beirut event, in addition to new bloggers. This endeavor was prompted by recommendations and wishes expressed by participants during an evaluation session that took place on the last day of the 2008 meeting.
